M1 - Codes and conventions for the genre

Small Cast

For our short film project, we formed a group of 6 with the group containing Me, Arsentijs,  Henry, Harrison, Faith, Ellie. Each person was given a set role to follow throughout the project and are able to do other roles like working behind camera or taking an acting role. The roles that were in use were editor, cameraman and actor. My main role in the project was to be an actor and being sometimes a cameraman, Arsentijs and Henry have roles of being actors, Harrison, Faith and Ellie were the cameramen.

Small number of Locations

For the short film we have only two locations that will be used in which they are the office in DUTC and a park in Doncaster. Most of the filming will be done in the office as only one scene consists of being outside in the park and that scene is when the detective goes to the murder scene.

Length

The length of the film should be under ten minutes at that is the maximum of what can be considered a short film. 

Budget

We don't have any budget for the film but we will use the equipmemt provided to us by the UTC. The equipment that is being used is camera, tripod and microphone.

Plot twist

The twist in our film will be that the detective is the bad guy all along. This will be shown to the viewer by having parts of the newspapers that lead to the clue in some of the transitions in out film. In the end the name will be revealed and one of the victims will be taken down by the detective.

Online Distribution

The film will be distributed through YouTube as it is a big video platform and easy to upload the footage there quickly/

P4 Present short film and obtain audience feedback

In this document I'll be checking out on the audience feedback that has been placed for us. The reason why we needed the feedback is so that we can see what type of mistakes we could avoid doing and things that we could improve in future film making. The forum contains 11 questions about the film which is more than enough for a short film and for there to be mostly positive feedback there needs to be at least 62,5% of people saying yes, if it's the opposite then that means the feedback was mostly negative. The first question in the forum asks the audience if the target audience is clear throughout the film. This question was set so that we could later on know if there are scenes that we have to change to suit that audience. The response from this question is mostly positive but with a portion of the people saying no shows us that we have to work on making it more clear for the audience. P2 Operate sound equipment

In this photo Harrison and Arsentijs are recording audio for their roles in the second scene in the short film In this photo, Arsentijs and Harrison are setting up the audio equipment This is the microphone that was used to record the audio in most of the scenes. It was also used to record Foley sounds and environment such as birds chirping and the wing blowing since with control over audio, we can manage in what scenes what audio you'll hear the best In these photos we are setting up the office scene and the camera and audio. Everyone has taken turns on setting up the scenes and equipment.  Health and Safety While working on the project, it is possible for someone to get hurt if no one is there to keep an eye. For this we gave Henry and Harrison a Health and Safety role while they are off camera. Even if we're following the storyboard, we have made some changes before stitching together the footage with one of them being the removal of the second scene and was replaced with a different one. We originally planned for the second scene to be the crime scene with both of the suspects there with one of the characters Mikhail building up the suspicion on the way, but we had to change the scene with only the detective showing up on the crime scene since we couldn't get confirmation from the church to film there and not all of us could arrive at the filming location. Some changes that we could make is by highlighting the text on the newspapers during editing and potentially changing some scenes to make the character Mikhail get more suspicion throughout the filming.
